Author Event with Ruth Whippman

Join Us for an Unforgettable Evening of Discussion with Ruth Whippman

On the 24th April Ruth Whippman will be joining us at Goldfinch for an interview with Author in Residence, Lou Morish, to discuss her newest book, BoyMum.

The book has struck a powerful chord with all of us at Goldfinch. We pride ourselves in our support for feminist activism, inclusivity and challenging harmful naratives. Our collaborations with visonaries such as Laura Bates and Soma Sara have been integral to this. Whippman’s book brings a whole new angle to this conversation in her exploration of the oft-neglected experiences of boys and men.

Join us to delve deeper into this discussion, and explore roads to a better future for our boys and men.

Ruth Whippman

Ruth Whippman is an author, essayist and cultural critic from London living in the United States. Before becoming a full time writer, Ruth was a producer and director at the BBC in London making documentaries and current affairs shows for BBC television. She lives in California with her husband and three young sons. Whippman’s viral essays, articles and interviews have been challenging the narratives of public discourse for decades.

BOYMUM

In BoyMum, by entering the world of not only the men and boys around her, but also those further from her immediate world in the form of Incel forums, behavioural management schools and ‘masculinity experts’, Whippman has begun to de-cloak the lives of men and boys who are struggling to find a path in this ever-evolving, complicated world. Her experience as a mother of three young boys provides a strikingly honest insight into the dialectic journey faced by mothers wishing to raise well-adjusted, feminist men.

Her debut book, the Persuit of Hapiness (American Title: America the Anxious) soared through the charts as New York Times Editors Choice, Daily Mail Must Read and one of Newsweek’s ‘9 Books to Change the Way You Think’ in 2016. BoyMum, her most recent edition, has had an immense impact on the world, and on us here at Goldfinch..
